Servant Event from Trinity Lutheran Church, Lincoln NE

The last group of the busy spring season, who stayed at the mission from March 27 through April 3, was from Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE. The experienced bunch, who were scheduled to go into Mexico, instead spent their week in Sparks at 2 or sometimes 3 different construction sites. They also did a health kit/school supply kit distribution at the community center on Monday afternoon. Worries abounded that not many children would attend due to the lower than expected turnout at VBS last week, but the line was out the door! They also had stuffed animals for the children who came through, but they ran out within minutes!

Construction-wise, the seventeen group members worked tirelessly and accomplished a mountain of projects: the Morales home now has a new porch and both hot and cold water, the Chicas home has a new over-roof, electricity that is run in a much safer fashion than before, and a newly remodeled bathroom, and the Valenzuela home has two newly painted and tiled bedrooms. All in all, an astounding twenty people now have much improved living conditions thanks to YLM’s latest bunch of willing servants. After five days of hard labor, everyone got to kick back and relax on Thursday evening over a delicious meal of smoked brisket before beginning the long, snowy drive back home the next morning!
